re: Asylum in The Elder Scrolls Online

So a few kinmates have joined us to try out Elder Scrolls Online. So far, it's been great fun and it's a very different kind of game. I'd like to share a mini review and highlights of our experience the past 5 days

  • ESO is an excellent solo game, and an enjoyable small group game. We found questing very good, the storylines are well-written, well-acted and engaging. You have choices that affect the world around you and determine if an NPC lives or dies. You will find yourself actively changing Tamriel and enjoy working your way to being a hero. Some highlights for our kinsmates:

  1. Choose one of three factions and experience completely different storylines
  2. PvP and questing meld together from level 10 onwards, giving a varying array of experiences in some very nuanced environments
  3. Questing and progression are phased out so other players don't break your experience
  4. The UI is very minimalist, allowing you to enjoy the game's grapics and atmosphere
  5. There are many secrets such as special treasure maps, elite mobs and skyshards that will give you special loot and skill points to enhance your character.

ESO has intrincate and specialist crafting, that impacts your build - You have to use skillpoints to develop your craft, so guild resource management is a must and player help is important. The game also has no auction house, so players must seek out each other for help!

  1. There are 6 crafting professions, each with their own special skills you must unlock and their own resources
  2. Everyone can gather all materials, but you can only use them in the professions you invest points into it
  3. You have to invest in research to learn to infuse your items with special traits. This means you must first find an item that has a trait, and then deconstruct it on a process that takes 6+ hours to learn the trait. The result of this is very varied specializations within professions and a very lucrative point for crafters.
  4. Crafting also has racial motifs, that you must find from special rare drops and then apply to your armor or weapons to change their appearance to match the style of a specific race. Fashionably wonderful
  • ESO has a new and interesting approach to grouping. Small groups of 4 players or large groups of 12, with dedicated dungeons for each with varying degrees of difficulty, as well as a whole zone dedicated exclusively to group questing and exploration.

  1. The first level 10 dungeon we did had us rethinking our mechanics and builds
  2. We obtained excellent loot from our first level 10 elite kill
  3. The community is much less aggressive than Rift and welcoming to newcomers to the MMO genre.

Our guild has currently 7 kinmates, and looking to add more if any of you guys will join us! It's an expensive bet given the high entrance price (buy game) but after five days with the game I am not regretting the purchase at all and I find it a relaxing and immersive experience that I am glad to share with other kinnies!

So even if you don't consider yourself a gamer, if you're looking for some fun and exploration, and enjoying some gorgeous graphics, come by and tell us how you like it :)

So Fex, Epic and I tried out the first dungeon tonight.  I believed like most that ESO was going to be a theme park and once you'd seen it all you'd seen it all.  Well, after getting the shit kicked out of us for 4 straight hours tonight, I think this game may be my home for a long time.

The combat felt bland and uninteresting out on the landscape (which is gorgeous by the way), but 10 minutes into the first dungeon and I was having a blast.  Dodging, blocking, coordinating and interrupting are the keys here.  Finding the best rotation and standing there and taking it are out.  Tanking has changed.  Healing has changed.  You are rewarded for playing smart and punished for not.

This game has so much promise.  And you level so slowly when you craft armor and gear it's worth it!  I leveled 1 level today in 8 hours of playing...

I think this game may be more than meets the eye.  Which is a lot!

I'm absolutely standing by all of that. This is the game that I've been waiting for for over a decade now.

You know that feeling you get when you dive into a newgame, and you have to log off because you have to go to work the next day, and you actually start thinking to yourself "Hmm... maybe I should just quit my job..."  Well, that's where I'm at right now with ESO. I love my job, but damnit, I love ESO more and find myself thinking about it all day, like I used to with Evercrack back in the 90's.

If any of our fellow Crickhollow Asylum kinmates are still on the fence about joining us in Tamriel, let me help solidify your decision with this endgame vid that dropped today:

Visually... Stunning. The scenery in ESO is so incredibly detailed I couldn't help but wander around for the first twenty minutes running through the forest like a prisoner who hasn't seen the sun in twenty years. The quest content is immersive, granted you actually read what the npcs are saying. Very easy to get lost in the quest chains, although landscape mobs are pretty much punching bags for you. On the other hand, there are elite mobs and dungeons that wiped us for 4 hours straight.

A very unique game, minimalist UI to engage you in the beautiful world of Tamriel, and a largely diverse skill set for each class. You wanna tank with a restoration staff? Go right ahead. Main heal with a two-hander? No Sweat. There isn't anything you cannot do (for a Templar anyway). Well worth the $45 dollars for me, even if it is 15 dollars a month for sub. Solidly amazing game. Well done Bethesda, well done.

If your a fan of the series, or just looking for something different to sink your teeth into, ESO will not disappoint you.

Hi Pudi!

We are on the North American megaserver, Aldmeri Dominion (you can be any faction to join guild don't worry) and are called 'Asylum.

Why the ' ?? Well, Castielle can't read time and made us late for the game launch and name got taken. Yep, blame Cas~!
